Up-Cycled Denim Jacket

This jacket was inspired by Japanese Yogi coats. I wanted this garment to reflect the different wearers of the vintage jeans it was constructed from.

I took the pockets off a pair of jeans and replaced them on the other side, further highlighting the reserve and honoring the denim.
The back of the coat has buttons and loops on it so you're able to make it smaller if you wanted a more snug fit on one person. It comes together to hide the dark panel- mimicking reserve.
I want the wearers to be able to get really comfortable and intimate in this jacket. It is large enough to snuggle two people into it.
While working with the jeans, I got a bit obsessed with the reserve, it was very inspiring to me. It showed the life of the denim. How it had changed and grown. I wanted to highlight that.
I've never been so inspired by a cloth like denim before. The way in which it is manipulated and worn in a million different ways is beautiful. It is such a universal textile. It brings many people together.
